About Us

1. About SSX

The Surplus Stock Xchange is the dedicated secondary marketplace the MEP and construction trades have been waiting for!
It’s a place to buy and sell new and used surplus stock, accessories, and equipment without restocking at a national supplier, listing in hope on a generic marketplace, or leaving it all in the van until you take a run to the tip. Speaking of vans... you can also buy and sell vehicles here too!
SSX was created by a team of MEP engineers and merchants who have suffered the problem for decades... then we built the marketplace that we could not find!

2. Our Story

We came from the tools and the trade counter, not from a pitch deck to investors. As our teams grew, one thing stayed obvious; construction is years behind other industries such as the motor trade, clothing, and hospitality when it comes to buying and moving products and materials. Perhaps by design.
The cost of trade goods is often inflated. Returns can be punitive. Restocking charges and delays eat the margins. Specialised kit is expensive to buy when new and awkward to resell once owned. The more specialised and expensive a product is, the worse the secondary market tends to be. Viable stock piles up in vans, sheds, containers and warehouses because there is no proper marketplace to offload it. SSX is that proper marketplace.

3. The Problem We Refused to Accept

Most trade disciplines do not have a surplus stock problem because they buy trade products incorrectly. They have a surplus stock problem because the market has given them no clean way out.
Every shortage, tariff, or commodity driven price increase sits on top of residual stock that’s already waiting in the market, but effectively hidden from consumers. Every new product release leaves a trail of devalued existing products that still do the job you’re trying to complete, often within a tight budget.
Generic sites and trade forums were never built for this. They lack the catalogues, the processes, the insights and the protections needed to move construction industry products through a secondary market with confidence. Viable products are largely unseen and never reach the people who need them. The net outcome typically becomes another costly exchange with a national supplier or manufacturer. (whether you wanted to buy or to offload). Even the largest of contractors and merchants are stuck with the same logic at scale. End-of-line, end-of-contract and superseded stock is stored for a time, then discarded because there has been no serious marketplace for it. Until now.

4. What Is SSX?

SSX is an online marketplace for new and used construction materials, accessories, equipment and trade vehicles across three types of trade:

• Business to Business
• Business to Consumer
• Consumer to Consumer

You list what you have. You search for what you need. You set the commercial terms of the trade.
It is not a salvage yard, an obsolete product dump, or another national supplier portal with a different facade. It is a dedicated trade marketplace for surplus, superseded, spare and specialised products that still have a job to do.

Trade directly with peers from your industry, with individuals, with businesses, with participating merchants and manufacturers alike. All on your own terms.

As we move forward, we are looking to engage with governing bodies for a plethora of trade disciplines. Once done we’ll begin adding fast links to bulletins and regulation updates inside our technical section. This alongside our forums where you can trade ideas as well as surplus stock. We’re also working on adding useful tools and pertinent trade apps and calculators to help keep your projects moving!

5. Who Is SSX for?

If your surplus stock items, vehicles or equipment belong to the construction industry, they belong here too.
• Commercial/Industrial MEP engineers looking for appliances and ancillaries
• Plumbers and gas engineers looking for bathroom suites, domestic appliances and power tools
• Electricians after testing equipment, containment and accessories
• Groundworkers who need plant, tooling or materials
• ACR technicians looking for pipe, flared fittings and bargain units
• Regional merchants clearing shelves
• Nationals moving superseded or end-of-line stock
• Small to large contractors looking to secure or offload spec’d contract items
• Sole traders with a van full of “might need it” kit
• Liquidators and asset recovery agents looking for a fast turnaround with VAT invoicing
• Individuals looking to purchase their own materials for private projects or hoping to sell on leftovers.
All trades and entities from all sectors of the construction industries are welcome

Buyers come for kit they can use. Sellers come to recover cash and space. Both sides deal as merchants, as businesses, as tradeys, or as private individuals.

6. What We Will Not Do

We will not pretend a general marketplace is good enough for specialised trade products.
We will not build a system that works only for national suppliers.
We will not hide the costs of using our platform.
We will not ask you to describe an adiabatic chiller, a 300kW water heater or a spare part for 1MW gas burner as if it were a sofa.

7. Why This Exists Now

Other industries already have dedicated marketplaces. The trades were left to subsections of marketplace sites that do not understand the goods, the risk, or the buyer.
SSX exists so surplus stock stops being a dead cost. So superseded does not automatically mean unavailable. So a plumber, an electrician, a joiner, a ground worker or builder can use one marketplace without translating their stock into consumer-speak.

8. The People Behind SSX

SSX is run by people who still buy the materials, still price the projects, still carry the end-of-contract leftovers, and still take the hits on the back end.
Our activity in the industry is the standard we write the rules to. If a process or an option would not survive on a construction site, a contract, a warehouse, or a trade counter... it does not belong on our platform.

9. Start Trading

If you have valuable stock or equipment sitting unused and it still belongs on a job, list it.
If you are about to pay full price for something that probably sits gathering dust in somebody’s warehouse, search for it first. You may be surprised!

Whilst built by MEP engineers and mechanically biased merchants. SSX is open to all trades, to firms of every size, and to anyone buying or selling construction goods who wants a marketplace that was built solely for the construction industry.
