FAQs & Troubleshooting
About SSX
What Is SSX?
SSX is the Surplus Stock Xchange, a specialist marketplace where private individuals and businesses can buy and sell surplus, obsolete, reclaimed and hard-to-source trade materials, equipment and vehicles.
Is SSX the Seller?
Usually not. Unless a listing expressly names SSX as the seller, the sales contract is between the buyer and the independent seller shown on the listing.
SSX provides the marketplace, checkout, communication and dispute tools.
Who Can Use SSX?
You must be at least 18 years old. You can register as a private individual or as a business and can use SSX as a buyer, seller or both.
Is It Free to Create an Account?
Yes. Creating a standard SSX account is currently free.
Standard listings are currently free. Optional listing boosts and marketplace seller fees may apply.
Accounts
How Do I Create an Account?
Select Create Free Account and register using email or an available social-login provider.
You may need to confirm your email and complete your profile before buying or selling.
Why Does SSX Ask Whether I Am a Private or Business User?
This helps buyers understand who they are dealing with and which legal rights may apply.
You must choose the option that accurately reflects how you are acting. Regular commercial sellers should register as a business.
Is a Trade Body Registration Verified by SSX?
Trade body information is normally supplied by the account holder. It is not verified unless SSX expressly displays a verification statement.
Buyers should check important qualifications directly with the relevant trade body.
How Do I Change My Account Details?
Open your profile or account settings. If a field cannot be changed, contact SSX Support.
How Do I Close My Account?
Contact SSX Support
We may need to retain transaction, tax, fraud or dispute records after account closure.
Buying
How Do I Buy an Item?
Find the item, review the complete listing and seller information, choose any required options, add it to your basket and proceed to checkout.
At checkout, select shipping or collection where available and review the complete price before paying.
Can I Buy from More Than One Seller?
Yes. SSX may create a separate order for each seller so that delivery, collection and payout can be managed correctly.
Is an Item Reserved When I Put It in My Basket?
No. Adding an item to your basket does not guarantee availability.
Stock is reserved as part of checkout. The order is confirmed only after successful payment.
What Happens When the Last Available Item Sells?
After successful payment, SSX reduces the available quantity. A single-quantity listing should automatically become sold and stop accepting further purchases.
If a sold item remains available, please report it to Support.
How Do I Know Whether VAT Is Included?
The listing and checkout should show the applicable VAT treatment and final total.
The seller is responsible for selecting the correct VAT rate.
Can I Request a VAT Invoice?
Where the seller is VAT registered, you can request a VAT invoice during checkout or through the order details.
Selling
How Do I Create a Listing?
Select Sell, complete the listing information, add photographs, choose the correct Industry Sector and category, set the price and stock, and preview the listing before submission.
You can save a listing draft and return to it later.
How Many Photographs Can I Upload?
A listing can currently contain up to six public product photographs.
You can also upload up to three private identifiable-marking photographs.
What Are Identifiable-Marking Photographs?
These are private photographs of serial numbers, part numbers and other unique markings.
They are retained by SSX but are not normally shown to buyers. They may help establish which item was supplied if the wrong item is returned.
Why Is My Listing Awaiting Approval?
Some listings require review before becoming visible. This helps SSX check categorisation, content quality and marketplace safety.
Approval does not mean SSX has inspected or guaranteed the item.
Can I Edit the Category After Publishing?
You can edit listing information from your seller account. Some category changes may require the listing to be reviewed again.
If the selected category is unavailable or the item appears in the wrong place, contact Support.
What Can I Not Sell?
You cannot sell unlawful, stolen, counterfeit, recalled or unsafe products, hazardous waste, asbestos-containing material, prohibited weapons, illegal substances or anything else whose sale or transport would be unlawful.
Contact Support before listing an unusual, regulated or potentially hazardous item.
What Fee Does SSX Charge Sellers?
The current marketplace commission is 9.5% plus VAT, calculated on the discounted item subtotal and deducted from the seller’s proceeds.
The applicable fee is recorded against the order.
What Is a Listing Boost?
A boost is an optional paid feature that can increase a listing’s prominence for a stated period.
A boost does not guarantee views, enquiries or a sale.
Payments and Payouts
How Are Payments Processed?
Payments are processed securely through Mollie or the payment provider shown at checkout.
SSX does not normally store your complete card details.
When Does the Seller Get Paid?
Seller proceeds are normally released after the buyer confirms receipt or after the platform confirmation period expires without an unresolved issue.
Payment-provider and bank processing times may still apply.
Why Is a Payout on Hold?
A payout may be held because of a buyer issue, payment dispute, verification requirement, suspected fraud, refund, chargeback or administrative review.
The seller should check the order and payout details or contact Support.
Shipping and Collection
Who Arranges Shipping?
The seller selects the available shipping options and is responsible for dispatching and packaging the item.
Some shipping services may be supported through SSX, while others may be arranged directly by the seller.
Can I Collect an Item?
Yes, where the seller offers collection.
Buyer and seller should agree a safe collection time and location through SSX messages. The buyer should inspect the item before removing it where reasonably possible.
What Should I Do if My Item Has Not Arrived?
Check the order details and tracking first. Contact the seller through SSX messages.
If the issue is not resolved, use Report an Issue on the order or contact Support.
Returns and Problems
Can a Seller Say That They Do Not Accept Returns?
A seller can state their voluntary returns policy, but that policy cannot remove rights that apply by law.
For example, consumers buying online from a business seller may have cancellation and faulty-goods rights even where the listing says returns are not accepted.
How Long Do I Have to Report an Issue Through SSX?
You should report an issue as soon as possible.
The current SSX payout-protection period is 48 hours after fulfilment. Raising an issue during this period pauses automatic payout.
This 48-hour period does not remove any statutory or contractual rights that continue afterwards.
What Issues Can I Report?
You can report:
- an item not received;
- damage;
- the wrong item;
- an item not as described;
- missing parts;
- suspected counterfeiting; or
- another material problem.
What Evidence Should I Provide?
Provide clear photographs, packaging, labels, serial numbers, tracking information and relevant messages.
Do not dispose of, alter, install or repair the item unless necessary for safety or agreed with the seller or SSX.
How Will a Refund Be Paid?
Approved refunds are normally returned through the original payment method.
Processing time depends on the payment provider and bank.
Trade Vehicles
Does SSX Inspect Trade Vehicles?
No. Unless expressly stated, SSX does not inspect vehicles, verify mileage, confirm roadworthiness or perform finance checks.
Buyers should carry out appropriate history, finance and mechanical checks.
Can I Search by Transmission Type?
Trade Vehicle listings can include manual or automatic transmission information, which may be used when searching or filtering vehicle listings.
Messages and Technical Forum
Can I Message a Seller Before Buying?
Yes. Use the listing’s messaging option to ask relevant questions.
Keep payment and transaction arrangements on SSX so that there is an accurate record and the platform protections can operate.
Is Technical Forum Advice Verified?
No. Forum posts are user-generated and should not be treated as professional engineering, safety, installation or legal advice.
Safety-critical work should be checked by a suitably qualified person.
How Do I Report Abusive or Dangerous Content?
Use the Report option where available or contact SSX Support with a link or screenshot.
Privacy and Support
Who Can See My Identifiable-Marking Photographs?
They are not normally visible to buyers. Authorised SSX staff may access them for support, fraud, returns, moderation or disputes.
Does SSX Store My Payment-Card Details?
SSX does not normally receive or store complete payment-card details. They are processed by the payment provider.
How Do I Contact SSX?
Use Message SSX Support while signed in or visit the Contact page.
